How many straws are collected per freezing process?
The number of straws per freezing process results from the characteristics of the ejaculate, i.e. volume, semen density and progressive motility before freezing. These are individual characteristics varying from stallion to stallion, and can therefore be influenced to only a limited extent. Hence, the total amount of straws per ejaculate varies, too.
An insemination dose should contain not less than 600 million spermatozoa. The thawing rate should be no less than 35% progressively motile spermatozoa.
The quality of the ejaculate is evaluated by test freezing.
