How and where must the frozen semen be stored?

During the automated process of freezing the semen is cooled down to -140 °C (freezing temperature) and then permanently stored in liquid nitrogen at the rate of -196 °C. The semen is placed in special containers, which are refilled with nitrogen twice a week and which are regularly monitored. Furthermore, the semen storage is insured.

Semen, which has been collected at an EU approved AI centre, can be stored at our AI centre in Muehlen ( Pferdebesamung Mühlen GmbH). Semen which has been collected at a national AI centre must be stored at a national station or semen storage centre.

If you have questions on the storage and maintenance or administration of semen please contact our staff.
